UITP Award won for the TCP International Project - Sustainable Urban Transport Master Plan for the City of Windhoek!
This project was conducted on behalf of the German Agency of Technical Cooperation (GIZ) by TCP International Experts together with Aurecon South Africa. The launch of the Sustainable Urban Transport Master Plan took place at 5th September 2013 in Windhoek. The Minister of Works and Transport Honorable Erkki Nghimtina and the Minister of Region and Local Government, Housing and Rural Development, Honorable Maj Gen (rtd) Charles Namoloh, introduced the Master Plan as a document which will lead the Urban Transport Sector in Windhoek towards a more sustainable development. Especially the urban poor will benefit by the intended shift from a car oriented towards a more people oriented transport sector. Media and Press attendance gained also the speaches of the Deputy Mayor of Windhoek on behalf of the Mayor - Her Worship Mrs. Agnes Kafula and the German Ambassador for Namibia, His Excellency Onno Hückmann. Both stressed their further support and willingness to start realisation of the plan. During the technical session, the TCP Team Leader, Mrs. Angelika Zwicky, informed the audience – selected stakeholders and representatives of transport companies, transport associations and other interest groups – about the measures proposed and the positive impacts expected when implementing the measures.
